Experiential Learning Program - 2024 Spring
Purpose
The purpose of the Experiential Learning Program is to strengthen the Public Health workforce pipeline by preparing high school students to pursue careers in Public Health after post-secondary school graduation.

Student Outputs
Students unlock their potential with our comprehensive program!
Students delve into PUBH 3130: Social Determinants of Health, gaining a nuanced understanding
of the field. They also develop expertise in data analysis through an Excel Certification
Course, enabling them to drive informed decisions. For juniors with below 30 ACT scores,
personalized tutoring ensures academic growth. Additionally, students become certified
in lifesaving techniques like CPR w/AED, Stop the Bleed, and Narcan training, building
their confidence and skills. They also conduct impactful research on social determinants
of health, comparing Shelby County with Tennessee and the United States, and present
their findings in a clear Excel document and engaging Research Summary PowerPoint.
Finally, they create compelling public health graphic novels, showcasing their creativity
and knowledge.

Closing Program: Showcasing Achievements!
On Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 6 pm, the University of Memphis hosted an engaging event where we proudly showcased the students’ research and public health graphic novels. Parents, faculty, health department staff, and CDC grant members gathered during the Closing Program to witness the culmination of our students’ hard work and innovative projects. The students had meticulously prepared their presentations, ensuring that every detail reflected their accomplishments.
