Types of Grants

The Strengthening Communities Initiative offers two types of grants: Small Grants and Capacity Building grants.

Small grants of up to $2,500 are awarded to nonprofits for a one-time community development project, preferably to support initial work that will lead to a future capacity-building grant.

Capacity-building grants can be requested for up to $18,500 for an 18-month period. Community-based nonprofits must partner with a tenure-track faculty member in order to apply for these grants.

The Strengthening Communities Initiative will not be accepting capacity building or small grant proposals for the 2017-2018 funding cycle. We are currently assessing the program's impact and alignment with sponsor goals and institutional capacity.
