For Release: January 20, 2020
Review by Malvin Massey, Jr., 1/20/2020
The Feature CD of the Week is from Australian virtuoso guitarist, composer Albare
(Albert Dadon). It is titled "Albare Plays Jobim: A Tribute To Antonio Carlos Jobim."
Born in Morocco, he grew up in Israel and France. Although at the age of 8 he joined the Music Conservatory in his hometown in Israel for 2 years, his musical development was completely self-taught.
He began his professional career playing in France. In 1983 he immigrated to Melbourne Australia and along with his musical prowess, he has become prominent in promoting cultural and business links between Australia and Israel.
He recorded a series of "Acid Jazz" albums for Festival Records in the early 90's. He is a major influence in Australian jazz having directed the Melbourne International Jazz Festival for many years.
Over the years he has become noted for his silky style and sense of melody. He discovered the sound of Antonio Carlos Jobim in 1972 while watching the cult film Orfeo Negro.
Hearing the haunting melodies and unique compositions left a profound impression on Albare.
This is his 12th album and is a romantic exploration of the music of the bossa nova
master's music. These are some of the most popular tracks by Jobim, done in Albare's
wonderful full orchestra sound.
Produced by fellow Australian musician, keyboardist Phil Turcio, the CD features Antonio
Sanchez on drums, Ricardo "Ricky" Rodriguez on bass, and on piano Joe Chindamo. who
also conducted and did the string arrangements.
If you like beautiful music, this Feature CD is for you.
