Diplomacy Research Lab Funds Seven Projects

Call for Proposals results in the funding of new research projects focused on pressing global issues

  The Diplomacy Research Lab at the University of Memphis is a transdisciplinary research group investigating the world’s most pressing issues about how diplomacy can improve relations, reduce tensions, and reveal the dynamics of dyadic, regional and organizational cooperation in the international system. This new research cluster recently held a call for proposals for summer funding. The Diplomacy Research Lab sought to support projects from any academic unit or discipline on the theme of diplomacy, broadly defined, and with support from the Division of Research & Innovation and the FedEx Institute of Technology, the Diplomacy Research Lab awarded seven inaugural projects.     Projects and Researchers Awarded:  

Dursun Peksen (Political Science): Civic Engagement and Education through Analysis of Conflict and Trauma​

Ashish Joshi (School of Public Health): Role of Public Health Diplomacy in the 21st century ​

Leah Windsor (Institute for Intelligent Systems): DELTA ISA: Bridging International Relations with the Mid-South and Mississippi Delta​

Michael Pérez (Anthropology): U.S. Human Rights Diplomacy in Socialist Latin America​

Jasper Fessmann (Journalism and Strategic Media): Fighting ‘the good’ framing battle: Counter-framing against disinformation to defend liberal-democratic values ​

Dustin Hornbeck (Leadership): Conceptualizing Democracy: An international comparison of curricular perceptions. ​

J. Elliott Casal (English): Modeling Cultural Understanding Diplomatic Negotiations through Emotion Perception and Expression​
