UofM SPH Welcomes CUNY SPH Dean Dr. Ayman El-Mohandes at October Dean’s Grand Rounds
October 24, 2025 - The University of Memphis School of Public Health (UofM SPH) proudly hosted Ayman El-Mohandes, MBBCh, MD, MPH, FAAP, Dean of the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH), during the Dean’s Grand Rounds.
Dean Joshi expressed his profound gratitude as he introduced his long-term mentor of 16 years - “this is a very special moment for me, I have the chance to introduce Dr. Ayman El- Mohandes, who is such a great human being. I am deeply grateful to him as he helped shape me into who I am today, both at the personal and professional level”.
Dr. El-Mohandes responded to his words, remarking that “Nothing pleases me more than seeing his (Dean Ashish Joshi’s) success amongst you today, seeing the kind of intelligence and energy that he has assembled at the University of Memphis School of Public Health.”
Dean Ayman El-Mohandes presented his research on Global Perspective on Quality Health Information. SPH students, faculty and staff participated in a Q&A session at the end of the event.
Dr. Ayman El-Mohandes is a public health academic with a deep commitment to public service and community engagement. He is an established researcher in the field of infant mortality reduction in minority populations.
Dr. El-Mohandes’ funded research focuses on population-based interventions in underserved communities both locally and globally. His publication record includes innovative approaches towards improving perinatal and neonatal outcomes in high-risk populations.
To close the event, Dean Joshi thanked Dr. El-Mohandes for his time and for sharing his knowledge with SPH students, faculty and staff. Dean Joshi added “I feel that this is a great opportunity for us to have a Memphis - CUNY Partnership” as he presented Dr. El-Mohandes with a SPH plaque of appreciation.
