FCBE hosted Bloomberg representatives for hands-on workshop in Cook Analytics and Trading Lab
The Fogelman College of Business and Economics (FCBE) welcomed Bloomberg representatives Alex Wisch and Ash Lopez from New York for the second session of the Bloomberg Workshop Series, which was held on February 17 in the Cook Analytics and Trading Lab. The execution of this workshop was facilitated by Robert Ashamole.
The session was organized and hosted by Samaneh Mohebalizadeh, PhD candidate in Finance. The initiative reflects FCBE’s strong commitment to fostering industry engagement and providing students with direct access to leading financial professionals and technologies.
Held in the Cook Analytics and Trading Lab’s temporary location, the workshop provided students with hands-on training in utilizing Bloomberg’s powerful research and analytics platform for both academic and industry applications. Participants explored the fundamentals of Bloomberg services, learned how artificial intelligence is integrated into Bloomberg research tools and gained practical insights into tailoring Bloomberg features to support individual research projects and career development.
The Bloomberg Workshop Series continues to strengthen the connection between classroom
learning and real-world financial practice, equipping students with in-demand analytical
and technological skills.

Drs. Kristen Jones and Alex Lindsey published in Journal of Organizational Behavior
Drs. Kristen Jones and Alex Lindsey, from the Department of Management, published a paper in the Journal of Organizational Behavior with former FCBE Management PhD student, Dr. Dave Arena (now assistant professor at University of Texas Arlington) based on Dave's doctoral dissertation. The paper, titled “Signaling as an Antecedent to Identity Management Behaviors in LGB Employees: A Sensemaking Perspective,” explores the idea of identity signaling at work, or the subtle ways in which employees “test the waters” to gauge how others in their work environment might react to sensitive identity-related information. Across two experience sampling studies, data from 666 LGB-identifying employees suggested that signaling intensifies identity-related sensemaking, but only in more hostile environments (where employees witnessed high amounts of incivility in their work environment). In such environments, signaling increased (both) conformity-based and affirmation-based efforts among LGB workers, with behaviors such as assimilating (essentially hiding who they are at work) consistently translating into heightened emotional exhaustion. These findings highlight how employees' responses to signaling are influenced by cues from others and the broader social context at work. In a practical sense, this suggests that managers and organizational leaders can play a critical role as allies in cultivating supportive environments of civility and respect that protect against the downstream harmful impacts of signaling on emotional exhaustion. Specifically, this could entail participating in and modeling visible, research-supported allyship behaviors and speaking out against exclusionary or uncivil behavior when it occurs, as silence may be interpreted as tacit endorsement of mistreatment. For more details, read the full paper.
