Army Reserve Officer Training Corps

The Department of Military Science (Army ROTC) develops confident, capable leaders through hands-on training, real-world leadership experiences, and dynamic classroom instruction. Our mission is to commission U.S. Army officers of character into the total Army, including Active Duty, the Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard, prepared to lead America's Soldiers with integrity and purpose.

Students from the University of Memphis and Rhodes College are eligible to participate in Army ROTC at the University of Memphis. There is no military obligation for students enrolling in the basic Army ROTC courses, and there is no need to enlist. Army ROTC is simply a college course that develops leadership, confidence, teamwork, and critical decision-making skills that will benefit you in college, your career, and your future.

Whether your goal is to serve as an Army officer, earn valuable leadership experience, compete for scholarships, or simply challenge yourself, Army ROTC provides opportunities that set you apart. Army ROTC faculty are active-duty U.S. Army officers and noncommissioned officers assigned by the Department of the Army and approved by the University President. Their experience, mentorship, and commitment to developing future leaders provide cadets with an exceptional foundation for success in the Army and beyond.
