Ambassador Luís de Almeida Sampaio Joins SPH International Public Health Diplomacy Advisory Group

July 16, 2025 - Ambassador Luís de Almeida Sampaio has joined the University of Memphis SPH International Public Health Diplomacy Advisory Group, which brings together global health leaders, diplomats and policy experts dedicated to advancing the intersection of public health and international relations.

Ambassador Luís de Almeida Sampaio is a senior Portuguese diplomat with over 40 years of distinguished service in international relations, global security and health diplomacy. A graduate in Law from the University of Coimbra, he has represented Portugal in key posts including Ambassador to NATO, Germany, Algeria, Serbia and the Czech Republic. His career highlights include leadership in conflict prevention, development cooperation and promoting global health agendas across multilateral platforms.

Ambassador Sampaio has played a pivotal role in integrating Portuguese institutions into the World Health Summit Academic Alliance. Presently, he serves as President of the Strategic Council of Coimbra Health and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Academic Alliance of the World Health Summit (WHS). He also serves as Senior Advisor to Bluepharma, as well as Ambassador of Forum Saúde XXI and member of its Advisory Board. Ambassador Sampaio continues to publish and speak on diplomacy, European affairs and global health.
