University of Memphis Alert Notification

Inclement Weather Notice

Jan. 23, 2026

Due to incoming severe winter weather, all University of Memphis locations will move to modified campus operations — including remote classes and work for students, faculty and staff — beginning Saturday, Jan. 24, through Monday, Jan. 26.

Online Course Delivery

Course delivery will shift to an asynchronous online/remote learning format through Monday, Jan. 26, with the possibility of a few limited exceptions. Faculty will deliver courses that were scheduled for in-person instruction through asynchronous online delivery when feasible. Synchronous online courses will shift to asynchronous delivery.

Faculty will make reasonable accommodations for any disruption of technology or access to course materials that may be required by students during this period. Faculty will communicate directly with students regarding any specific instructions or adjustments to coursework.

Any exceptions for in-person delivery of courses must be approved by the responsible College/School Dean or equivalent academic unit administrator with concurrence by the Provost during this period of modified campus operations.

Course Registration and Payment Deadlines

Course registration (online) will be extended from the Monday, Jan. 26, deadline to 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, to accommodate all late registration due to the inclement weather.

However, all payment deadlines remain in effect as accounts can be paid online via TigerXpress. Accounts must be paid in full, or students must enroll in the Installment Payment Plan (IPP) by Jan. 27 at 4:30 p.m. to avoid being dropped from classes. Additional notices will be sent to affected students via University email.

Employee Expectations

All employees are expected to work remotely where applicable. Employees whose functions cannot be performed remotely, or who encounter difficulties working remotely, should consult their supervisor. Employees are encouraged to visit the Modified Campus Operations and Emergency Closing Information webpage for more information on University modified operations and/or closures.

Campus Events

Campus activities and events at all University of Memphis locations are canceled or postponed from Saturday, Jan. 24, through Monday, Jan. 26.

Emergency Crucial Services

Crucial services — including campus police, limited facilities operations and other services for residence hall students — will be available on-site. Dining options on the Central Campus will be accessible at the Tiger Den and Jones Market in Jones Hall from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. Dining options on the Lambuth Campus will be accessible at the Blue Gray Cafe Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. All other buildings at all University locations will be closed.

Reminder: Preparing Campus for Winter Weather

Facilities Management asks that you please close all windows and doors to maintain a continuous, airtight barrier that protects the building systems from extreme cold. Keeping buildings sealed will help retain heat and reduce the risk of weather-related issues.

Please note that as part of our preparation for the cold outdoor temperatures, indoor heating levels may be increased, and building temperatures may feel warmer than usual. This overcompensation is intentional and helps protect building systems during periods of extreme cold.

Additional Info

For the latest information, please check your email, local media sources or the University website. Should there be a need for further changes, they will be communicated through those outlets.

Please take appropriate precautions and stay safe.
